Caribou Falls
Caribou River at Caribou Falls after several days of rain in October. Superior National Forest along Minnesota's north shore of Lake Superior.
This is a single-row gigapan comprised of 8 vertical high-resolution images stitched together to form a panorama, using a polarizing filter, standard 50mm lens, and small pin-hole apertures. Tripod required, of course. Long shutters provide the white-hair like flow in the water.
The gigapan technique allows you to more accurately capture and convey the sweeping aspect of your field of view, while enabling superb attainment of sharp detail and also allowing for printing at very large sizes that can't be realized if cropping one or only a few shots taken with wide-angle lenses. The only problem is finding the wall space for these, which can be 6 to 15 feet wide, if you want to print them at full size.
