First Light Boomer
Male prairie chicken on booming ground at Bluestem Prairie SNA, Clay County, Mn. These fellows show up as early as one hour before sunrise, rain or shine to compete for mating rights. When they first show up it's usually far too dark to capture any video or still shots. Patience, a high resolution, low noise camera, and preferably with a fast, long focal length lens are needed to capture the best images. April is the key month to visit a lek, but be prepared to remain in the blind for up to 5 hours during the peak of the lekking season.
