Bottoms Up
Drake mallard foraging by the ice during late-winter. Tipping up is one of the common foraging techniques used by mallards, which are a type of surface-feeding or "puddle" duck. Puddle ducks don't dive for food, thus when feeding in wetlands require shallow water, usually less than 18 inches deep to forage for plants and invertebrates.
